UPDATE - February 12

Inspiration doesn't sit still, it dances with the daring...

The Mike Palin everyone
My friend Mike Palin shared that thought with a group of us last night. Loved it!

Mike and I met each other seventeen years ago when he spent three months living with Stan and Marge Voth and volunteering with Young Life. He had to remind me that it was only three months. It felt longer - in the good way. Mike really left an impression on me.

He went back to the UK and launched The 267 Project that resources churches to do next level youth ministry. So cool.

He spent the weekend with us. I can't believe it has been seventeen years! We picked up up right where we left off - minus the fact we are both now married and have children and are getting gray hair. Ha!

WEEK IN REVIEW

A relatively quiet week in Fellows-land.

Memory Verse for the week

Monday - we had to audible because our hosts for Round Table came down with the stomach bug that's been going around. I won't mention who they are - but they were incredibly kind to still provide food for us. Thank you to you know who you are!!!

Leader Lunch with Jade and Jessi - nice product placement!

Wednesday - we had a leader lunch with Jade and Jessi Costen owners of the Thruway Center Chik-fil-a, triathletes and marathoners extraordinaire, and wonder-parents. Jade is one of the best leaders I know. So thankful to sit under his wisdom.

Here's a nugget for you (pardon the Chik-fil-a pun). These are the 4 qualities Jade coaches into his employees - he calls them the "4 SP's"

1. Serve People
2. Stay Positive
3. Solve Problems
4. Say Please

I'm stealing that! Thanks Jade.

Friday- I gave the Fellows the day off. I was in Greensboro teaching the Piedmont Fellows, and it just worked out to give our Fellows a break.

I really enjoyed my time with Mike Gatton and his crew: Dustin, Josh, Sarah, Leena, Sam, and Nick. Thanks for the gift it was to be with you all.

That afternoon - Mike Palin and I took David and two of his friends up to the cabin to celebrate David's birthday. (Now that David is nine, he prefers to be called David and not Dave Dave.) We had loads of fun. Lots of laser tag and running around. Big portions of blue cake with blue icing and waffles with whipped cream on top.

No fun being had here

Just a little bit of whipped cream

Can't believe this dude is nine!

I love this young man. Happy birthday, David.

Also - Friday night, we had Christian McConnon a Fellows candidate come into town. Owen Stone - the honorary Fellow - hosted and prepped him for his interview, which was held the next day. Andrew Boyd, who was Christian's Young Life leader, took care of him in the morning then handed him off to me and the team.

It really couldn't have gone better.

Tate shows our Fellows candidate some of the finer things

Sunday - We interviewed another outstanding candidate, Kelly, Sunday afternoon. Praise the Lord!

I can't say enough about our admissions team. For them to spend basically four hours total Saturday and Sunday says a whole lot. Thank you Kim, Stuart and Shannon!

Kate led worship and sang offertory at church. Tate also led worship at River Oaks and read Scripture!

RECRUITMENT UPDATE

Thank you for your prayers! Keep them up!

We are praying for six guys and six gals again this year. We are officially 25% of the way there. We are waiting on three offers and will likely be extending three more offers soon. So we shall see!

Tate, Natalie and I are heading to Chapel Hill next Sunday for a recruiting event. Please pray for that. I'm also working on trips down to USC and Davidson and over to NC State in the next two weeks. Please pray for God ordained encounters!

It's getting real!

FINANCES

Again, none of this would happen if it wasn't for you and your support. Thank you!

This week we will be purchasing plane tickets for our mission trip and putting down a deposit - so lots of money going out!

This year, we are taking the Fellows to Mission Emanuel in the Dominican Republic! It's shaping up to be a pretty stinking amazing trip. For those of you who have been to the DR you know how amazing it is. This morning, I'm meeting with two missionaries from down there who are on maternity/paternity leave up here to discuss how we can connect with them. We will also be working on re-connecting with Brad and Carrie Friesen's friend who is one of the leaders in government for the country. Exciting stuff!

We are not doing an official fundraiser for our mission trip this year, but if you wish to support us, we will definitely appreciate it!
