UPDATE Week of September 28

HERE I AM

Think about it. The only place you can truly be is where you are. So what are you doing here? How are you spending the most precious resource you have? Your life.

This week, we are digging deeper into who God made us to be. We will be reflecting on our stories and exploring what they might tell us. We will be paying attention to our experiences and critically examining how we interpreted them. Finally, we will be turning to God to see what he has to say about who he created us to be.

It will be intense. But in my experience, a journey like this can lead us to a freedom and joy we have never experienced before. I can't wait!

Here we go!

THE WEEK

What a sweet week!

MONDAY

Round Table at the Fellows House.

The gang surprised me with a Birthday Celebration!

Tori wears lots of hats.

We got to worship together.

We are going to see if Rufus, the T-Rex, will survive the year. With fifteen birthdays to get through, chances are low.

Nothing a little duct tape can't fix.Who invented the tradition that pointy hats meant birthday?

Blowing out candles. Fortunately, they did not light the number of candles equivalent to my wage - It would have set off the fire alarm for sure.

Thank you Fellows - you loved me well!

I love you with all my heart.

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY

Wrestling with Racism in our time

Dr. Ibram Kendi

Dr. Ibram Kendi spoke to the Davidson College student body and to alumni from around the globe.

Dr. Kendi can be controversial, but he is also one of the most important voices on racism (and anti-racism) today. I recommend reading his works or listening to his talks.

It was great to sit and listen.

Wednesday night we had the opportunity to listen to another voice. Essau McCaulley, from Wheaton College. He just wrote a book called Reading While Black.

the Fellows were invited to be part of the book launch! How cool is that?

On Thursday, some Fellows went downtown to peacefully demonstrate with our brothers and sisters.

These are important times. We want to be present for them.

LEADER LUNCH

Lanie Ehlinger.

What an amazing woman. What an amazing story.
Lanie doesn't have the resume some of our speakers have - but her spiritual resume blows pretty much everyone else's away. The powerful impact and legacy this woman has in the lives of so many and in the shaping of this city is immeasurable.

I think we all came away wanting to be more like Lanie.

Small world moment: Bailey did Summer Staff with Lanie's son!

It was a fantastic event. We had a lot of fun. I was really proud of the Habitat Team. What a creative way to tell their story!
