UPDATE Week of September 10

Chanice and her mentor Kara Freiberg

A GREAT WEEK TO BE A FELLOW

Mathu spent part of his Labor Day cutting limbs at his Host Family's house

LABOR DAY ROUND TABLE

We continued a great tradition of inviting former Fellows to our Labor Day Round Table.

Abbey drove in from Williamsburg!
It was a beautiful evening. We were able to play outside. We cooked up some great food. And we were blessed with Kate Donahoo's worship leading gifts and also Klondike bars which were half price at Harris Teeter! Woo Hoo!

LEADER LUNCH

Lanie brought out all the props!

Lanie is one of my oldest friends and one of the people I most look up to. I love sharing her with the Fellows because she breaks the mold of leadership.

She doesn't have a list of degrees, has never held a powerful position, never earned a big paycheck - but she has something that most people don't: she can pray. And there is nothing more powerful than that.

Lanie prepared a wonderful lunch for us, including this Mexican dip that I ate almost half the pan of, then proceeded to knock our socks off...

Lanie came out with guns blazing
Not the coolest Leader Lunch we've had

HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS

The Fellows outside St. Phillips

Professor Kevin Frack provided us with his legendary lecture and guided tour of the spiritual history of the Moravians who settled this land and founded the town of Salem.

Kevin
Few people can hold people's attention for more than thirty minutes. Kevin held ours for ninety!

(Thank you Salem College for providing air conditioned space!)

Afterward, we traveled up the hill to God's Acre, then down through the bakery to break bread with each other, then through town center down to St. Phillips the first African American church in Winston-Salem.

Mathu Gibson's going to play a part in the change we are going to see in this city. You heard it here.
We prayed on the bricks and closed out a wonderful day with lunch downtown.

WEEKEND ACTIVITY

Several of our Fellows were introduced to their congregations on Sunday morning. All of them started volunteering at Youth Group

ARo went to her first youth group as a sixth grader. All went well except she chipped a tooth! Great Ooga Booga!
