UPDATE Week of October 8

Laura and Aly getting a front window seat to listen to Bryan Pardue blowing up the Southside Bottle Shop Friday night

It was a momentous week for some Fellows...

MATHU GIBSON

Straight up onion
Mathu's week started with eating a whole onion with his Fellows director. (They were cooked - and man were they tasty! More on the Rick and Kim Laurence's amazing dinner later.)

Then, on Thursday Mathu spoke at the 2nd Annual START WELL Breakfast.

Then, Mathu lived out one of his dreams by being the color commentator for Friday Night Rivals!

Look at that guy!

Keys to the game

So proud of him

But Mathu was not done!

He, Christian and Chanice all joined River Oaks youth up at Camp Hanes for a wild weekend of fun and worhsip.

What a crowd!

BRYAN PARDUE

Bryan Pardue...not to be confused with Perdue...

I literally ran by Bryan this week as he was tearing up the drive thru at Chik fil a. They got him doing everything over there. This Thursday, he is hosting a brunch for those of us who want to shake things up around the city. I'll be there...will you?

Soutside Beer Garden and Bottle Shop
Friday night, Bryan lived out a dream and played a killer set up blues, jazz and Americana at Southside Bottle Shop.

The Fellows came out in support.

GARRETT BRIGGS

Garrett also had a big week.

Garrett sharing his testimony at church

Garrett spent last weekend as a high school youth leader up at Montreat with the First Pres youth. Then Monday morning, he went in for his first day of official work at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine (it took a few weeks to get through all the hoops at Wake Forest - but we did it!)

Then, Garrett stood in front of a room and shared his story on Sunday!

All three of these guys stepped up and stepped out of their comfort zones. So proud of them, and so excited to see where this new found courageous faith is going to take them!

WHAT A WEEK!

MORE HIGHLIGHTS

ROUND TABLE

Rick and Kim's back porch

We had Round Table at Trent Hancock's host family's home. They prepared for us a good old southern shrimp boil. I confess I had never been to an official shrimp boil before! Man, have I been missing out!

Thank you Laurence's!!!!

LEADER LUNCH

Mike Campbell - President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity
Mike Campbell knocked it out of the park this week! He was so vulnerable with us, willing to share not only his strengths but also his weaknesses.

As my friend Nigel says, "There is no straight line to get you from where you are to where you want to be."

Mike's story is like that - and yet - it all ties in. And looking bak it is so clear that all his experiences have added up to where he is right now.

Thank you, Mike!!!

SENIOR SERVICE

Melissa Smith trained us to be Connections Volunteers at Senior Services. Super pumped about this!

START WELL Breakfast

I'm still trying to track down pictures.

What a great morning!

Thank you Eddie and Michelle Schapira for hosting us and your incredible love and generosity toward this mission. You both are inspirations!

Breakfast was wonderful.

The program was short.

Mathu did an amazing job sharing about his background, why his chose to be a Winston-Salem Fellow, and how this program is helping him grow into the man God has created him to be.

I talked a little about how Jesus makes brand new things.

Gardner gave a great pitch.

Bill McClain brought it home.

What a morning!

If you were not able to make it and would like to give your support to this mission.
