UPDATE Week of May 4th

DOING WHAT WE CAN TO STAY HEALTHY

Brianne and Hef do a power set in the backyard to stay healthy
Hef has warned me that her workouts would crush me. I believe her.

Trying to keep up.
Keith Davis, Andrew Wild and I started our training to complete the Murf by the end of May.

The pull ups crushed me

Keith wiped everything down for us
Health is an important thing nowadays. With COVID-19 it feels a bit elusive. You can do everything right and still catch it. The unknown, unpredictable, nothing-you-can-do-to-stop-it nature of the virus is what is so frustratingly hard about it. We can keep distance, wash our hands, wear face masks - but none of that makes us healthy - all that does is keep us from getting sick.

We are called to health! Wholeness! So get out there and exercise friends! Get eight hours of sleep! Cook yourself so nutritious food. Wear sunscreen, and of course - wash your hands!

MASK THE CITY

JM checks orders for masking the city
One of the coolest initiatives I have heard about during this pandemic is Winston-Salem's plan to get every person a mask. They are calling it "Mask the City"

Earlier this week, I was able to represent the Fellows by helping out with a distribution.

Look who I ran into Mr. Bill - by the way, Bill spoke at NCS on Friday and blew me away!
Deena and I had a hoot

I LOVE THIS

David had to write a poem using words and letters he found from magazines. His poem says:

Give your
Advantage
to
Others
Disadvantage

Amen!

No They Didn't...Yes They Did!

Campbell and Alexis Anderson!
Recently engaged Campbell Anderson and Alexis Staton had been planning a wedding in November but then decided - oh what the heck - and ELOPED!!!!

Congratulations guys! Quarantining together I am sure is WAY more fun than Quarantining as an engaged couple.

SPEAKING OF WHICH

Premarital counseling on Zoom
Brendan Heitz and Natalie Bayer as far as I can tell still plan to get married in August! We are having a blast doing premarital counseling - despite the technical glitches.

BACK IN BUSINESS

Hannah Blaine upper left
A praise! Hannah is back to work at ABC of NC.

BIG PRAYER REQUEST!
Several of our Fellows need jobs once this program is over at the end of the month. If you are hiring, let me know!!!

And if you pray - pray for this!

ROUND TABLE PARTY

Trivia Night

Zoom Round Tables have been getting a bit stale, so
Hef borrowed a great Trivia Night Power Point which included a Wheel of Misfortune...
It was a welcome change.
A great time was had by all
Even if the Holy Goats were cheated out of victory.
I'm not bitter...

We really needed the laughs...

READY FOR BUSINESS

Back Patio Living

Saturday night we tested out our new patio with some family fun around the fire pit. The only thing missing were friends.

I am happy to report that when this thing is over, we are ready to party!

We are crossing our fingers that once things open up a little we will be able to Host Round Table back here next week! May it be so!!!!

LEADER LUNCH

We had a special Leader Lunch this week with Melissa Parker. She is in charge of Patient Services at Novant Health and one of the busier people in Winston-Salem during this pandemic.

It was such an honor to be with her. Melissa's insights on our current times was so helpful.

So thankful for Melissa
Virtually impossible to get a good picture of Zoom...

Bible Study

I am glad to report that we kept our shirts on this time

Prayer

Joining the Fellows on a Prayer Call
Haley and Brianne have been leading us on Thursdays in prayer for our city and world.

Some helpful words this week

CLASS

We had part two of Personal Finance and Budgeting on Friday. It was super helpful and a little bit head-spinning.

Budgeting is meant to give us freedom, but at the beginning it is definitely not a little intimidating.

BAIRD created this super helpful checklist though!

thanks Jeff and Stephen!

RECRUITING

We had a good week on the recruiting front last week. We scored not one but two new Fellows!

Bryn Lenkaitis is from my neck of the woods, West Chester, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and for the last year has served with Americorps.

welcome Bryn!

We also want to welcome Owen Wood from Winston-Salem, NC. Owen is a homegrown talent who will be graduating from Davidson College in a few weeks.

Owen!

He is a multi-talent able to play several instruments including the trombone, but also guitar, bass, drums, among others...

He is also fascinated by analytics, strategy, and high level problem solving. He is a huge pick up! .

Welcome Owen!

A Healthy Dose of Family

A lucky man I am

A Classic

Anna Rose had to build a contraption out of kitchen items to protect an egg.

We started low...

Then, went big...

Twenty-five feet up the magnolia
The egg survived! Sort of...we fried it up afterward

SADNESS....

bummer...

Today we actually were supposed to be on a plane to Greece. Unfortunately because of COVID-19 we were forced to cancel our trip.

We are grieving the loss of this opportunity big time.

Also. Please pray that our Insurance Claim comes through. It is still "in process"

It would be a nice thing for our bottom line if this came in over the next couple weeks!

Pray!
