UPDATE Week of October 13

Wednesday night - the Fellows took on the Fair!

THIS WAS A FULL WEEK!

Good googa booga. There was a whole heap of goodness this week.

Here is the run down of some of it!

ROUND TABLE at the home of Richard and Jessica Shore

Porch Life

The Shores are awesome. Their children are adorable. Their eldest was the most hospitable four year old I have ever met.

The hardest part was saying good night!

THOUGHT LEADERSHIP: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND HUMAN THRIVING

The Fellows were able to help host the NCS Thought Leadership Symposium on Artificial Intelligence.

Holly with Former Fellows Christian and Bryan

Ned talks life with Vice Admiral Forrest Faison

Vice Admiral Faison, Dr. Anthony Atala, and Dr. Andjez Turkanik lead an enlightening discussion

A great audience

Jay Helvey greets the Davises and Walters

It was a night full of optimism and apprehension. What was encouraging in terms of the Fellows is that they were able to reiterate one of the pillars of what we believe - that human interaction in community is essential for human thriving, and no artificial intelligence can do that.

A great night.

LEADER LUNCH

We had to make a last minute adjustment for our Leader Lunch this week. Our speaker John Wyatt had an emergency, but we were able to audible and bring in my hero Bill McClain to fill in.

Not a bad substitute. Might have been an upgrade!

Bill McClain

Speaking of upgrades, Eddie and Michelle Schapira offered to feed us! (Much better than the cold cuts and pre-made salad I usually bring! Ha!)

Hats off to Michelle

I left early for a meeting at Starbucks across the street and all the Fellows met me over there for their coffee break! Ha!

After that, it was off to our Study of Luke.

Then the Fellows went to the Fair for cans in exchange for tickets night.

The fellows are always on the move which is why our pictures are always blurry (that's my excuse at least)

Jackson and Brianne - undaunted

JM is in a category in and of himself
MEANWHILE: WS FELLOWS BOARD MEETING

While our board meeting was not the fair - it was enjoyable!

SEPARATE BUT UNEQUAL: NICOLE HANNAH-JONES

On Thursday, the Fellows went to the Nicole Hannah-Jones talk at Winston-Salem State University. She brought the heat!

Her hair is flaming for a reason!

FRIDAY CLASS

We had some healthy debate during class number one with Ben Milner as we discussed the Creation Mandate.

For class number two we were able to use what we heard about the state of education and use that as our example for what it means to participate in the building of God's Kingdom. Great stuff.

THE TURNERS

Hef had the girls over to her house Friday night and read them bed time stories

UPDATE Week of October 7

A quiet moment. JM finds a few moments of solitude during River Oaks Youth Retrat

CELEBRATING OUR CHURCHES

One part of the Winston-Salem Fellows that we don't celebrate enough is the church partnerships we have. These churches not only help us provide host families, mentors, places to worship and serve, but they also help underwrite our program.

This year we have been honored to partner once again with four of our Inaugural Churches: First Presbyterian Church, Hope Presbyterian Church, Redeemer Presbyterian Church and River Oaks Community Church (you would think we are presbyterian but you would be wrong).

Jessica is with her seventh grade girls

Mattie is walking alongside sixth grade gals

Brianne is with Brian Edmonds, youth pastor at River Oaks
Brianne is serving this year at Redeemer Pres.
