THE WEEKLY FELLOWS UPDATE
the happiest man on earth Saturday night |
We are kicking off this Update with a hearty CONGRATULATIONS to Fellows Alum Bryan Pardue and new member to the Fellows family (by marriage) Maddison (Maddie Bolthouse)
We celebrated in a COVID free backyard in Denver, Colorado.
What a night!
Jacob, Christian, Ned and Trent |
Good old Clyde the Guide Godwin was the officiator. He was also the matchmaker! It is an amazingly cool God story how all this came about. God is good!
We had a couple of generations of Fellows in attendance. In the wedding party, there was Best Man, Fellows Alum, and brother to the groom Jacob Pardue!
There was also Fellows alums Christian McConnon, Trent Hancock and Garrett Briggs.
Sophie-Earle was also there as the date of Jacob!
Snuck this one - wish it was clearer |
Jacob gives the best man speech |
Bryan and Maddie couldn't resist sharing a few words |
the newest happy couple with our most recent happy Fellows couple Trent and Jess Hancock |
It was an honor to be in attendance. Having no official role, I had the opportunity to catch up with old friends and knock a few things off my list.
thursday...
friday...
Early morning Colorado time |
I jumped on the trail system and ran a little over 40 miles to finish off a 500 mile virtual race called Run the Ridge (a virtual run of the Blue Ridge Parkway)
first place! |
I was going against (really with - it's a very fun and supportive virtual community) some tough competitors, but I was motivated so I pushed through the pain and finished the race in First Place!
feels good to be done |
Winning gets me pretty much a whole heap of nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it was fun.
I cooled down the old legs with a six mile walk with my good friend and old teacher compatriot Gregg Tucker
One of my heroes |
He and his wife are doing some amazing things in the spheres of race, equity, and poverty. It started in the Dominican Republic and now is expanding back here in the States. Check it out.
the old house |
We stopped by the old house 1800 S Gilpin where Lia and I lived in the early 2000s
That evening I had tacos on the porch with my good friend and garage band mate Greg Trotter.
this was one of the highlights |
Greg Trotter is another one of my heroes. A beloved teacher, father and husband...someone I'd like to be when I grow up. He remains incognito for reasons all his own.
saturday...
the one and only Rick Lawrence |
I got to have a coffee on the hill with one of my favorite people Rick Lawrence! Two hours of conversation and we were just scratching the surface. Rick is a writer, speaker, editor, father, husband, and lover of Jesus. The iron in my life that has been sharpened - a lot of it has been sharpened by this man. check him out at
Getting our run on |
Greg and I then met up to run around my favorite park in Denver - Washington Park - it is a truly special place. And what a perfect day!
the real Michael Jordan |
I then grabbed lunch with another one of my mentors and heroes, Michael Jordan. Yes, friends, I know Michael Jordan - this one doesn't play basketball - but in terms of loving Jesus and singing - he is the GOAT.
I didn't have time, BUT, I couldn't resist cruising up the mountain just a bit.
I had a good reason. My great friend Tim Zandee just opened an art gallery and I needed to see it!
Tim has his own personalized masks for sale! |
Tim is an outstanding nature photographer. I've had the fortune of joining him on a few of his excursions. Very thankful for this guy.
He is in beautiful Evergreen, Colorado. And also online!
Check him out!
I squeezed in a little single track mountain run...just had to...
Evergreen lives up to the name. How I love these mountains! |
Then...it was game time!
Bryan and Maddie time! |
The wedding went off without a hitch...actually one BIG HITCH!
ha!
sunday....
I almost missed my flight because my Google Calendar and Orbitz kept me in Eastern Standard Time so I thought I had two more hours than I really did!
But fortunately, I made my flight with 10 minutes to spare! whew!
good to be home |
it really is good to be home...
