Bridges of Opportunity
Bryn's office is doing an art fundraiser for the United Way. This is her contribution.
It was inspired by a Freedom Ride we took a few weeks ago. Looking across the cement river of 52, Bryn imagined a river of life taking its place and a bridge connecting the revitalization of downtown to the men and women on the other side needing it.
What an inspiration!
Thank you Bryn for using your talents to inspire us!
THE WEEK and WHAT A WEEK IT WAS
ROUND TABLE "HOSTED" By Joanna, Katy and Troy
We are enjoying the beautiful weather as long as the Lord provides it!
We had some special guests. Joanna, Katy, and Troy of course. But also Caroline Filston's family, including parents, brothers and a girlfriend!
The more is merrier!
We are big fans of Greek food
We came inside and looked at Colossians 1:15-23 together
Great worship and great conversation...how I love Round Table
COMMUNITY CONVERSATION
Our Leadership Winston-Salem Alumni team put on the first of what we hope will be (eventually in person) community conversations.
This month we were given an insider look at the new Bailey South.
Aubrey Linville and Ben Schwab were our guest speakers.
POLITICS
Dr. Will Waldorf had his first in person class since last March, and it was with us!
We masked and distanced and all was well.
Dr. Waldorf shared about his personal political journey and gave us some great practical ways to look at politics through a Kingdom lens.
We also talked about how to have political conversations without it turning into fighting. It is easy said than done we decided.
The key is a posture of seeking understanding over seeking to be understood. Again, not as easy as it is said.
Without tipping his hat one way or the other, Dr. Waldorf did a fabulous job helping us to focus on the things we have in common while at the same time grasping that politics and public faith is very important to God and therefore should be important to us.
Lia was one of the first to vote on Thursday.
BIBLE STUDY
We continued reading through John. We are up to chapter 3! Woo Hoo!
FARM LIFE
We continue to serve on the farm here at Crossnore. Eric is giving the Fellows our own patch to grow. We will plant in the spring and the next year Fellows will be able to harvest what this year's Fellows will plant!
How cool is that!
FRISBEE
Melissa shared a Bible story with the group before we split up into teams.
The competitive spirit was high
I love getting to be part of these guys' lives
FUNKY DUCK
Me and some friends have been hatching a plan over the last year. The concept is if fries are in heaven, what kind of fries would they be?
Duck fat fries of course.
Then, take that and then figure out the perfect amount of time to cook them, plus a secret topping that is in its own way heavenly, and what do you get?
And the Funky Duck was born.
Covid set us back several months, but we are getting ready to get to business.
And guess who will be selling them?
That's right, Fellows! They are always looking to make a few extra dollars. So hi ho here we go!
Training
Taste testers
Y'all. Get ready. 2020 is about to get a whole lot better!
BUDGETING 101
Friday morning, Jeff Trollinger taught the Fellows basic budgeting. It is part of our Adulting Classes that we sprinkle throughout the year.
In the spring we will have him come back with a team and teach personal finance and budgeting for after the program is over.
FIELD TRIP!
MIXXER
Alan Shepard, founder of Mixxer welcomes the Fellows to his Maker Space
Alan gives a demonstration.
Y'all. Mixxer is one of the coolest operations in Winston-Salem. What a gift to our city, and what a vision Alan has to spread the wealth to the creatives all around us.
