UPDATE Week of December 21

Merry Christmas from the Fellows

We have a ton of photos in this week's episode of the UPDATE. I'm leaving them to the end not to overwhelm you. We finished our semester with a lot of cheer.

The Fellows are for the most part heading home for the holidays. A few are sticking around to work a few more days. As I write this, I'm in a very quiet Fellows House.

I miss them already.

Christmas Round Table with a Visit from Party Concierge Santa

For our last Round Table of the year we did a potluck party at the Fellows House.

Hef designed what sounded to me like Bossy Santa. But she turned out to be more of Party Concierge Santa. I can honestly say a good time was had by all.

Reindeer Games you could call them...

Hef is a superstar. The Fellows surprised her with a Christmas Present! So cool!

Owen and I led us in a twenty minute long Christmas medley.

Some of the presents were on the funny side.

Victory was sweet for Bryn.

There were some great big belly laughs. A lot of peppermint bark. And a whole bunch of Christmas Cheer.

Resilience Training with Meribeth Robinson

On Tuesday evening, the Executive Director of Crossnore Winston-Salem as well as a faculty member for Trauma Resilient Communities a nationwide to train cities in Trauma Informed Care, trained us on Trauma and Resilience this fall.

Love Feast

Love Feasts are one of the great traditions in Winston-Salem. They go back to the earliest moments of our Christian faith, but the tradition took root through the Moravians over three hundred years ago.

According to the earliest writings of the Moravians settlers, a Love Feast was held the very first night they settled in this area.

The Fellows continue that tradition every year.

It's not as fancy as our Moravian counterparts - but it is no less special.

Bible Study

We have had an amazing first half of the year with our Bible Study leaders.

Thank you David Rainey and Rob Paynter

As well as Shannon Rainey and Beth Hilliard

for all your prayer and preparation.

The gals went virtual since it was rainy and 38 degrees.

Thank Yous Prep

Hef and company spearheaded our thank you crew.

To all our donors and volunteers - thank you!!!

We also got our Fellows a little something as well.

Two Birthday Boys

This week we celebrated not one but two birthdays.

AJ Britton

and

Sam Bishop

Wake colored streamers for Sam

Gator colors for AJ

As is our tradition we loved them both well

What a special gift these men are to our community. I wish they had more than one birthday a year so we could celebrate them more.

Moving Sunshine

Christmas For the City was a go this year.

The Fellows were given the chance to work behind the scenes as well as host our own station.

Here we are moving 1000 cans of Sunshine

If you wanted to know what a 1000 cans of Sunshine looks like, it looks like this.

Christmas for the City

The Fellows stood in for Senior Services and collected food and cans for their food drive.

Meanwhile we danced.

We decorated

We handed out candy canes with verses written on them

And chocolate

And the band played for over three and a half hours.

My hands were nearly frozen by the end

Sam took the mic and serenaded the evening crowd

What a fun night.

I could have stayed out there another three and a half hours with these guys.

Vaccine News

Lia got her shot on Sunday.

Home for the Holidays

The Fellows are now heading home for the holidays.

They were met by old friends

Sam documented his road trip home.

Welcome home. We will miss you while you are gone and welcome you back when you return.
