UPDATE - January 29

Tate speaking at the Enneagram Workshop

A SOLID WEEK

Fellows alum Christina Sandstedt
FOND FAREWELL. I had the honor of spending Monday with Christina as we traveled from Winston-Salem to Raleigh for her to embark on her new adventure as a Coast Guard Cadet. I'm so proud of this woman. Our nation feels safer already!

Rahel met us for lunch in Durham

We were able to have lunch with another Fellows alum, Rahel. She is finishing up her Masters in Business and Health Management at Duke. I'm proud of her too.

Please pray for Christina! She is in Basic Training as I type this!!!

ROUND TABLE was hosted by our great friends Steve and Molly Lineberger. They whipped up my favorite Winston-Salem dish - the good old Chicken Pie. There were a lot of laughs around the dinner table as we shared stories about our childhood. Thanks Steve and Molly - y'all are the hosts with the mosts.

A LITTLE MID-WEEK PRESENT thanks to our good friends at Wake Forest.

Go Deacs!

The Fellows were offered tickets provided they root for the home team (not difficult for our Chapel Hill grads...) Unfortunately, the rooting came up a little short.

LEADER LUNCH was with my friend C. J. Beatty.

C.J. Beatty
C.J. is one incredible guy. He grew up here in Winston-Salem and grew to become a professional baseball player. After getting cut, he has taken that disappoint and channeled into a successful career as a motivational speaker and musician.

Here is a single off his new album (with a cameo of our Mayor!)

Here are a couple nuggets I wrote down from our time together:

"God's answer is either: not right now or I got something better."

"Why not me?"

"You become the people you hang around. So ask yourself: would you trade lives with the people in your group? ...But you become the people you hang around!"

CJ had the right idea with the sunglasses!

Solid stuff. Thanks CJ!

After Leader Lunch, the Guys had small group, then we all met up at WSSU for the Vigil to honor Najee Baker. It was a solemn occasion. But it was an honor to stand with brothers and sisters to say - no more! We can do better. We can be better.

THURSDAY I traveled to Chapel Hill for a recruiting trip.

I ran into one of Tate's best friends

Praying that two dudes come from this journey. Come on Jesus!

feeling the winds of shifting...come on Lord!

FULL FRIDAY. We had a very full Friday. The gals had small group. Then, we had a full morning of classes. Then, lunch. Then, a three hour Enneagram session with Fil Anderson!

I forgot to take pictures.

SATURDAY!!!

ENNEAGRAM WORKSHOP

Here we are!
One hundred plus of us filled Redeemer's sanctuary for a great morning of teaching. I can't thank Fil Anderson enough for the thought and work he put into this event.

We had folks from around the city, but also from as far as Williamsburg and Blacksburg, Virginia. So cool.

The Fellows did an amazing job hosting the event and providing childcare.

Patrick rocking the rocking chair at the Enneagram Workshop
Tate and Sarah Wilkins shared about what being a Fellow is like. They killed it!
Thanks again Fil!

Afterwards, we had a little post game lunch at Bibs.

You are not seeing double: Morgan's twin was here!
Morgan's sister Madison and friends Delaney and Jess joined us as well as two Fellows boyfriends: Isaiah and Brendan!

Isaiah and Abbey

That night, several of us went to Awake Church for the Hydrating Humanity Benefit Concert with John David and Melissa Helser and the Uncaged Birds. SO COOL!

David didn't quite make it through

More pics later!

Round Table: Thank you to the Lenhams for a fajita fiesta Monday night. We had a lot of fun with John, Jeanne, Hank and Claire.

We also had two more guests: Antonius (aka the "the one that got away") and Nadia, a friend of Caleb's.

Fellows and Friends

"friends"
Round Table is one of our favorite times of the week. This week was no different.

What was different was that IT SNOWED!

I don't like to cancel things but we were forced to cancel Leader Lunch (it had been planned to be held in a roofless building - which helped the decision making), Small Groups and G.I.D.E.

By Thursday we were all getting stir crazy.

A bunch of Fellows showed up at my door.

We showed up on Ashley's door!

Morgan sitting on our front porch. Anna Rose sitting on Morgan

Tucker jumped off a house with Fellow alumni Dakota

We had an epic Capture the Flag snowball fight

Dave Dave could hardly handle it

Snow much fun

FRIDAY We were the first people on Wake Forest's campus to have class.

Ben Milner brought the heat.

Then Joe Moore turned it up.

Afterward, The Fellows traveled to Kernersville to hear Tony Evans speak at an event hosted by my friend and yours, Stu Epperson Jr.

Tony brought the heat as well. Lots of heat on Friday.

JP listening and eating at the same time

SATURDAY. A heap of Fellows went to Young Life Capernaum. Natalie Bayer led the charge. I think this might become something we do every month.

Fellows blending right in

I LOVE YOUNG LIFE CAPERNAUM!!!!

SUNDAY we had church and youth groups.

Here is Grace hanging out with River Oaks peeps after church

BOARD RETREAT!

I got to hang out with our Board on Saturday for a productive five hour meeting. I can't tell you how lucky I feel to have partners like I do. We have a great board that are visionary, strategic, organized, connected, and gracious to their Director. Thank you guys! 2018 is going to be our best year yet!

RECRUITING!

We are working through five applicants right now. Super excited about that. Please pray for wisdom as we walk through this process with them.

I'll be driving to Chapel Hill this Thursday to do some recruiting work as well. Trips to Virginia Tech, Clemson, Davidson, NC State, App State, Chattanooga, Charlotte, and etc. are in the works.

REMEMBER: YOU ARE RECRUITERS! Think about people in your circles - who needs this? Please connect us!

PRAYING FOR WINNIE

Winnie's first day with us

We found out this week that our sweet Winnie has bone cancer. There is nothing to be done but help her with pain and give her the best last few weeks we can. We are not sure how fast the cancer will take her, but we are taking advantage of every minute we can with her.

Winnie's happy place

Our Colorado dog always loved the snow

WHAT A WILD WONDERFUL WEEK IT WAS

What alliteration!

Round Table isn't always Round (rarely is round actually)
THANK YOU Dustin, Holly, and Owen Heath for welcoming us in your new home! It was quite an honor to be the first of what I am sure will be many, many, many people that you will be blessed by the Heath's hospitality.

JP really loved the tacos

 LEADER LUNCH was spectacular!

Steve Childs welcomed us into his new studio called Spinning Stone. Easily the coolest venue for a Leader Lunch ever. (Until this week...hmmm. What could Ned have up his sleeve?)

Steve shared his story and his paintings and glimpses of his movies and read from a living document of life lessons that he wrote just for us! Unbelievable.

Steve made a welcome sign!

This could make the website

After Small Groups we visited with Ron Pegram down at the 14th Street Rec Center. I actually ditched for an interview with a potential Fellow.

Then, we all met up at Crafted for dinner.

We've got lots of eating pics this week I'm realizing

Thursday I had a Program Committee Meeting with our Board then went to Wake Forest for a meeting.

They reserved a spot for me! How cool is that?

I almost kept it. Maybe should have.

Friday. We all took the Enneagram Test.

(see details below on how you can take it).

Ashley taking her test

Then we had our first class of the semester Spiritual Formation with Joe Moore! Joe is an amazing guy. He was the head of Spiritual Formation for Intervaristy (like all of Intervarsity) - and now he is teaching us!!!

I took lots of notes before I lost my journal over the weekend! Yikes!

(more on my weekend in a bit).
