UPDATE Week of September 9

Entering Old Salem with the whole gang as well as the Original Gangster - Kevin Frack

STANDING ON SHOULDERS

The Winston-Salem Fellows didn't come out of thin air. We are standing on the shoulders of the hopes, dreams, and prayers of generations of mighty men and women. These men and women longed for a day when a rising generation would take hold of the reality that God wants to do something with them. They prayed for a a rising generation who were will to understand the brokenness of the world and of their own lives and choose to love anyway. They prayed for a generation that would seek the peace and prosperity of a city - this city.

And God answered. The Fellows is not the only way he is answering these prayers. But after four years of doing this, I am convinced that the Fellows is one way he is.

This week was a reminder of that.

Hanging out with mighty men like John Bost and Kevin Frack and Bill McClain - men who have been praying for this their entire lives - I am convinced that God answers prayers.

He is answering it with us.

You and me.

Me and you.

Why not us? Why not now?

What are we waiting for? Let's do this thing y'all. Let's rise up. Stand on the shoulders. And do what we can for the generations to come to stand on ours!

Let's go!

THE WEEK

Intense game of poker.

LABOR DAY ROUND TABLE. What a gift to celebrate Round Table at the beautiful home of TIm and Julie Gupton. We swam and played and listened to some smooth jams.

We prayed and worshipped and learned about Jesus' mission and jobs he had.

We also celebrated Hef's first day on the job! (I know - ironic - her first day was Labor Day. Ha!)

TUESDAY. A day of meetings like this one...

Board Member Joanna Lyall - what of the great gifts to me
and encouragement by RUF's new intern and Fellows Alum, Dakota Lee.

and sitting at the feet of this man...

John Bost
Confession: I missed Rotary because I remembered a shirt, a jacket, a bow tie, belt, dress shoes, dress socks - but forgot pants! Doh!

WEDNESDAY LEADER LUNCH with JOHN BOST

Sophie-Earle loves John's "shed"

John had us over to his oasis of a home on Wednesday and shared stories and laughter and tears with us. I love introduce this radical to the Fellows early on. He really sets the stage for the year.
John shares his story

John blends in with the Fellows well don't you think?

Other Wednesday highlights - connecting with Monica and Collier at Salem College. Go Spirits!

Planning meeting with our amazing Bible Study Leaders - Shannon and David Rainey, Beth Hilliard, and Dustin Heath.

THURSDAY.

Started with a delightful catch up time with Sanford Danziger.

Lunch with the MOJI runners - If you supported the run do not forget to swing by MOJI and get your thank you gift.

OH! And if you need coffee this week (I know you do - got to MOJI this week to drink it!)

A jam packed Community Leader meeting with Love Out Loud and Faith Health.

Among other things...

PLUS!

Good things come to those who wait

It's a long good story - but the short of it is - Jackson landed a moon shot of a job this week - as dual research assistant to Dr. Nathan Hatch and Dr. William Waldorf. Only God...

FRIDAY.

Historical Foundations with Kevin Frack...

The one and only Kevin Frack

There is no one I know who tells the story of this place better than Kevin Frack. I am SO THANKFUL for him!

He captivated us for three straight hours.

Cool down with some cool beverages and half pound burgers

SUNDAY.

I had the chance to meet Jessica Baker's parents (very cool!) I also had to walk out early from River Oaks Church and I just happened to sit with them who just happened to be in the second row so I had to walk past like 500 people who were looking at me like - sinner!!!! Ha! Just kidding. They wouldn't do that.

Leadership Edge.

Mentor Training

Leadership Edge has a 25 year track record of mentoring men and women. Their stuff is amazing. And this year we are upping our game at the Winston-Salem Fellows by getting our mentors to be trained in it and go through it with their mentees.

Leadership Edge is working on a modified training plan and we were their guinea pigs yesterday. I have to say - it is really good stuff. I can't wait to see how it impacts our Fellows.

If you have an interest in mentoring and would like to learn more about this organization let me know!

Todd Melby - the president

Tim Safley - y'all know might remember him! - He is now their communications director

John Hawkins - founder and my friend
